Inner Truth, Line 1

“If there are secret designs, it is disquieting.”

Finding and living your Inner Truth depends on inner and outer honesty. If you have a hidden agenda, or are hedging your bets, in your relationships with others, it will cause misfortune.

…………………………………………………………………………

Here’s a common example: Girl A wants to get closer to Boy B. Boy B is not showing any interest, but Boy C, Boy B’s best friend, is. Girl A feigns interest in Boy C so she can hang out with their group. This inevitably ends badly.

The Book of Changes says: Living your Inner Truth requires you to present that truth to others.

Keeping up a false front may be the easiest thing to do right now, but it won’t get you what you want in the long run.

The Yi has two more changing lines for us on how to live a life of Inner Truth, Line 3 and 6.

New Year, New Changes

Book of Changes has been on hiatus since November, when I ruptured my Achilles tendon. Spent the holidays hobbling to surgery and doctor visits in the ice and snow.

But now I’m ready to resume my duties. I asked the Book of Changes for a reading to guide us in the New Year, and received:

61. Inner Truth

“Favorable to cross great waters.”

By living your Inner Truth now, you can take on a great challenge and succeed.

………………………………………..

What is your Inner Truth?

It’s not an easy concept to grasp. But in some way, you are not living the life that is comfortable and right for you.

The Book of Changes says: Living your Inner Truth will allow you to focus all your energy on achieving something truly meaningful to you.

Will this be easy? Of course not. But the Yi sent three changing lines to guide us.

………………………………

Tomorrow: Line 1: “If there are secret designs, . . . “

A short pause . . .

The Book of Changes will be taking a break for a few weeks. I ruptured my Achilles tendon, had surgery, and now just getting from the living room to the bathroom is a major undertaking.

Talk about change! Once I get a handle on moving around, and managing the pain, the blog will be back.

In the meantime, stay flexible. Accept and adapt. That’s what I will be working on for the foreseeable future.

8. Holding Together

“Holding Together brings good fortune.”

Now is a time when finding and sustaining a community is of utmost importance. Don’t wait too long to join. Thinking of taking a leadership role? Be sure you are worthy.

…………………………………………………………………………

Holding Together is the Future of Obstruction. Maintaining a supportive community is critical to your survival, and the survival of those around you.

The Covid pandemic is a good example: The more people who get vaccinated, the fewer people who can catch and spread the virus.

The Book of Changes says: “Don’t wait too long to join.”

In other words, get the vaccine before it’s too late!

39. Obstruction, Line 3

“Going leads to Obstruction; hence she comes back.”

Plunging ahead at this time will only smack you harder into an Obstruction. Go back to a place where you can feel secure, and perhaps aid others.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

You have encountered an Obstruction on your path. In the Main Message, the Yi hinted this Obstruction may be of your own making.

With Changing Line 3, the Book of Changes is telling you: Don’t tackle this error in your thinking head-on, full force. You’re only setting yourself up for failure.

Have you identified the attitude or belief you hold that is Obstructing your progress? Our Future reading suggests the problem is: you think you have to do everything yourself.

39. Obstruction

“The superior woman seeks the error within herself.”

Something is stopping you from moving forward. It is probably an error in your own thinking.

……………………………………………………

Fill in the blanks here: I can’t ___________ because ______________. In the first blank, put the goal you are seeking. In the second, put what’s Obstructing you.

The Book of Changes says: You’re wrong about the second one. E.g, You think you won’t get to head the new project because the boss is a sexist. The Yi says, Yes, the boss is a sexist, but that’s not the problem. Look for something in your own attitude or beliefs that an Obstruction to getting what you want.

We received just one changing line to guide us toward identifying this Obstruction, Line 3.

34. Great Power

“Energy in harmony with the movement of heaven.”

A time of Great Power will arrive. Your inner strength and outward actions will combine to make significant achievement possible.

……………………………………………………….

The Future of Pushing Upward is Great Power. Wilhelm says, “The hexagram points to a time when inner worth mounts with great force and comes to power.

Your “inner worth” is the key here. The extent of your Great Power will be determined by the degree to which you Push for the greatest good for all. If your motives are selfish, you will not receive the heavenly energy and power predicted here.

I’m sure you’d like to know exactly when in the future this Great Power will arrive. Sorry, but the Book of Changes is never definite about time, in fact, when something will happen is rarely mentioned, or even hinted at. Phrases such as “For 10 years she waits . . . ” are interpreted to mean “a long time,” not 10 years in actuality. In any case, Great Power makes no mention of when it will kick in. Perhaps that depends on you.

Pushing Upward, Line 4

“The King offers her Mt. Chi. Good fortune. No blame.”

You will receive help from a higher power. Your effort achieves the goal. There is “no blame” for you in this good fortune.

…………………………………………………….

Sometimes, when things go right for us, we fear it has been at the expense of others, and feel guilty.

The Book of Changes says: This is not one of those times. Feel free to enjoy your good fortune to the max.

Be alert for some form of synchronicity; some sort of “happy accident.” This will be the Higher Power lending you a helping hand.

46. Pushing Upward, Line 1

Pushing Upward that meets with confidence.”

Effort driven by higher motives will succeed. If you are doing the “right thing,” go for it!

…………………………………………..

What are you Pushing Upward toward? We have been assured that small, steady steps will bring “supreme” success.

With Line 1, the Book of Changes says: You need to be Pushing Upward for the right reasons. If you are, you can be confident of success.

We have one more Changing Line before we can look into the future.

46. Pushing Upward

“Pushing Upward has supreme success.”

Now is the time to focus on small — but steady — efforts. You must “heap up small things to achieve something great.

………………………………………………………………………………………

R. L. Wing calls this hexagram Advancement. It’s a reminder that success frequently requires more time and more effort than we want it to.

The Book of Changes says: What you want to achieve requires small, regular steps. If you do proceed in this manner, you will have “supreme success.”

Example: You have posted a new blog, and you have visions of it going viral, bringing you worldwide fame and fortune. This hexagram tells you to ‘get real.’ Only slow and steady effort will win this race for you.

Pushing Upward came with two changing lines, Lines 1 and 4.
