45. Gathering, Line 2

“Letting oneself be drawn . . . “

Do you feel yourself being drawn to a particular person, or to a group, or lifestyle? Do not fight this attraction. The Wilhelm translation says, “There are secret forces at work, leading together those who belong together.

…………………………………………………………………..

Changing Line 2 is our only changing line to the main message of Gathering Together. It’s the closest “fortune” you will get from the I Ching to “You will meet a tall, dark, handsome stranger.”

The Yi says: The attraction you feel is important. You are meant to be with this person, group, or lifestyle. Let yourself be drawn to it.

45. Gathering

Gathering together brings success.

When you are not acting in accord with your Inner Truth, you will feel unsettled — conflicted and indecisive. But when you “get yourself together” and act in line with your Inner Truth, you will feel confident, energized, and also at peace.

…………………………………………………………………………

Are you faking enthusiasm for a relationship? Are you working at a job that requires people skills you just don’t have?

The Yi says: Get your s**t together. Don’t try to be something you’re not. Being true to yourself will be an enormous relief.

Tomorrow: Changing Line 2: ” . . . secret forces at work . . . “

18. Repair

Repair — ‘work on what has been spoiled’ — brings supreme success.

The difficulty you face is of your own making. You’re going to have to clean it up yourself. Your success will be great.

……………………………………………………………………………

Repair is the future reading of Decrease, with Changing Lines 1 and 3. The good news is: You can have “supreme success.” The bad news is: You’ve got to work at it.

The Yi says: You are in a situation that must be Repaired. You caused this, and it’s up to you to fix it. You’ve been avoiding it because you don’t want the humiliation of admitting you were wrong.

Do what you’ve got to do, and move on. Great things are waiting.

Tomorrow: A new reading, with a different twist.

41. Decrease, Line 3

Three people . . . decrease by one . . . one woman finds a companion.

Looking for a Significant Other? A person alone is more likely to make new connections.

…………………………………………………………………..

Do you go everywhere with friends or family? While it’s true there’s safety in numbers, when you’re in a group, your attention tends to go to other members of the group.

The Yi says: Go a few places by yourself. Extend yourself to make the first move toward others. In this way, you will find a true friend and companion.

This changing line reminds us: Decrease is not always bad. Sometimes it’s just what you need.

41. Decrease, Line 1

“Going quickly when one’s tasks are finished is without blame.”

Extend a helping hand to another, but don’t overdo it. And don’t demand recognition for your good deeds.

………………………………………………………………..

Line 1 is about the flip side of Decrease — when you are the one who is able to provide assistance.

The Yi says: Once you have provided what help you can — either because you have no more to give, or because the help is no longer needed — take your leave gracefully and quietly.

There is a human tendency to try to extend a helping hand into a controlling hand. The thought is, for example: “If I’m providing the money for this, we’re going to do it my way.”

Resist that urge. Do what you can to help, then be on your way.

………………………………………………………

Tomorrow: Line 3: “One woman finds a companion.”

41. Decrease

Decrease combined with sincerity brings about supreme good fortune.

You are experiencing a Decrease. Don’t try to hide it. By adapting to the new reality, instead of complaining about it, you will strengthen yourself and emerge better off.

…………………………………………………………..

Decrease may come in many forms: money, love, companionship, health, physical abilities . . . In this Covid pandemic, any of the above, or even all, are a real possibility.

The Yi says: Don’t pretend to yourself, or others, that you haven’t experienced a Decrease. Honesty opens the door to “supreme good fortune.”

Tomorrow: Changing Line 1: “Going quickly is without blame.”

21. Biting Through

Let justice be administered.

You must ‘bite through’ the situation that has been holding you back. You cannot avoid, deny, or compromise.

…………………………………………………

Red flag warning from the Yi: That problem that’s been plaguing you? You are going to have to deal with it head-on. Soon.

R. L. Wing said it best: “There are times to avoid confrontations, to sublimate deep feelings, or to retreat and await a more opportune moment for action. This is not one of those times.”*

We received no changing lines with Biting Though, which means this state of affairs is likely to continue.

40. Deliverance

Thunder and rain set in, the image of Deliverance.

A major change in your approach to your most pressing problem will clear the air and allow a fresh start. Forgive others — and yourself.

…………………………………………………………………….

You are approaching an interpersonal problem in an old, pre-pandemic way.

The Yi says: This a battle you will never win. Times have changed. Try acceptance of the situation to relieve the building pressure. It will allow you both to move on.

Acceptance will be your Deliverance.

Tomorrow: A new reading for April 30, 2021.

52. Keeping Still, Line 6

Noble-hearted keeping still.

You will attain the inner peace you seek. All areas of your life will benefit.

……………………………………………………………………….

Our final changing line says “You will gain inner peace.” This a very positive message, with no “advice” attached.

What does that mean? Let’s recap this hexagram’s message from the start:

The main message was: You need to focus on yourself now, and there is ‘no blame‘ in this.

The first changing line said: You are being swept along by some strong influence. You need to get back on your own path.

The second said: Don’t be too rigid in trying to impose the old order on a new and chaotic time. Try yoga or meditation to relieve the pressure.

The third said: You are doing well at working toward inner peace. Keep it up.

The fourth says: You will attain the inner peace you seek.

It doesn’t get much better than this. Until it does . . . in our future message.

Tomorrow: Future: Deliverance

52. Keeping Still, Line 4

Keeping her trunk still.

You have made progress in ridding yourself of inner turbulence, but steadfast attention to maintaining inner balance is still essential.

……………………………………………………………………..

The Yi says: You have done well at Keeping Still. But Keeping Still is not a destination; it’s a part of the journey. You have to stay at it.

Keep your psychological core strong.

Tomorrow: Line 6: “You will attain the inner peace you seek.”
