6. Conflict, Line 5

“To contend before her . . . “

If you are locked in a disagreement with someone, you both lose. Submit your dispute to a fair and unbiased mediator, then accept the result and move on.

…………………………………………………………………

Most Conflicts are not of the type you can submit to a “fair and unbiased mediator.” Let’s say you are arguing with your sister over who is going to host the family Christmas this year. There’s no “mediator” for that.

But if you are thinking of getting a divorce, then hiring a mediator, may be your best option. Courts in the U.S. use the adversarial system. Lawyers are trained to fight for their clients. I know; I used be one. I was not very good at fighting. That’s why I’m not a lawyer any more.

The trick, of course, is to get your spouse to agree to mediation. Our future reading says there will be Opposition.
