51. Shock, Line 1

Shock comes — Oh! Oh! Then follow laughing words — ha! ha!

A Shock comes and at first you are distressed. As you learn the lesson this Shock teaches, your distress will change to joy.

……………………………………………….

The lesson you are meant to learn is: This Shock isn’t fatal, and neither are “the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to.”* We may think that every new shock is the end of the world, but it’s not. You will survive. Once you learn this lesson,** it will fill your life with joy.

……………………………………..

Tomorrow: Line 4: Stuck in resistance to events you do not control.

………………..

*William Shakespeare said it, and I believe it.
